DTP41: Unsupported USB to RS232 Adapter

USB2.0 to RS232 converter P/N: ZX-U03-2A
This made in China adapter uses Prolific driver.
Unfortunately it cannot be connected to DTP41 with either ColorPort or ToolCrib.

    1. Hi,
Are you implying that your DTP41 was unable to communicate directly with the RS232 port on your PC? Here are few questions for you.
      1) What software are you using? ColorPort or ToolCrib?
      2) Are the RS232 ports enabled in your PC BIOS?
      3) Is your PC’s comport using the default protocol? (check with Device Manager)

I have no experience about the MAPLIN adapter. I suggest that you to conduct the following test.
      a) Disable (all) RS232 ports in the PC BIOS, make sure com1 and com2 are freed and that can be verified with Device Manager.
      b) Reinstall driver for MAPLIN adapter and assign it with com1. If com1 has not been freed in the BIOS , use com2(must be freed too in BIOS) then.
      c) Test DTP41 connectivity with ToolCrib, if possible.
      d) If you are using ColorPort, go direct to Measure Target and select DTP41 (serial) as measurement device. If comport is assigned appropriately, it should be appearing in the Serial Port (Under Measurement Device) for selection. Restart ColorPort if any change has been made to the comport assignment.

The factory default baud rate for DTP41 is 9600. In case DTP41 has been set to a different baud rate or protocol, restore it to factory default by a Full Factory Reset. This can be done without RS232 connection to a PC. http://dtp41.blogspot.com/2010/11/dtp101.html

Hope to hear good news from you soon.

  2. Hello,
sorry I took so long to get back to you but I had just ordered a usa-19hs and it only came yesterday. I have it running no problem at all but again the dtp41 is not getting picked up at all in device manager or as new hardware found. I have printed out your full blogspot and I will also print out your reply to my previous question and advise you on the outcome. Ps I had initially a 41b with no reading that i thought was faulty, then a 41 and exactly the same prob. I'll run the factory reset, check bauds and ports etc and advise,
    Thanks for your help,
    have a great evening,
    Lee

    1. Being a serial device, dtp41 would not be shown up in device manager.
Refer to my earlier suggestion, check its connectivity with either ToolCrib, ColorPort, or other relevant software tools.

      Good luck.

  3. Hello...the good news is here :)
Finally, all is reset and sure enough it now shows up in ToolCrib...fantastic, I bought this to run color profiles for vinyl printinfg and now the printer has lay for the last month unused, the printheads are now dry... one thing after another, but I have to admit this is a real relief,
Thank you so much for your help over this, great help and much appreciated,
    Cheers,

  5. Hello!

Thanks for your very useful blog about the DTP41! I have a weird issue with colorport2.0: my DTP41 cannot connect to it, while it successfully connects with ToolCrib 5. I updated the firmware but the problem persists... Any suggestion?
